Feel among

It's disheartening to see 29 year olds influenced negatively by their peers. Oh, wait for it, 55 year olds are also being influenced. When someone says peer pressure, we're quick to think of children and teenagers. Sorry ma, if you're picking aso-ebi you can't afford, you're succumbing to pressure. If you're buying cars or even meals you can't afford so you can post on instagram, you're there. If you're contributing money in church not because you want to give to God but because you can't genuinely say "I'm sorry I can't give anything now". How about getting married because your friends are doing so?

You do things because you want to "b'egbe pe". Your mates are starting businesses, building their conglomerates from scratch. Yes, your mates are also buying designer everything and flying around the world. It's up to you to choose, stupidly or otherwise, where you belong. It doesn't have to be a bad thing, like stealing, doing drugs or runs. As long as you're doing something because others are doing it, you're wrong.

Thanks for reading bloghearts. Xo, Anuoluwapo.

*B'egbe pe = feel among

Anuoluwapo, I agree we have to be strong individuals and stand up for what we believe in... we should not succumb to peer pressure, I work hard not to do this as I don't want my 12 year old to follow the pack, I want her to be her own person xox

I wasn't done- it's the one among older people that is even more annoying. Parents be comparing their wards to their neighbor or friends wards, thereby causing more damage to the child's psychic.

'feel among' syndrome.....This is EPIC! I would never understand it no matter how much I tried. I am not done with 'feeling myself'...why would I wanna go 'feel among'??

Hhhmm. Topic. I certainly agree with Barr Anu on this. As adults especially in Nigeria today, there is so much pressure to be at par with our mates. Even our parents didn't help issues when we were growing up, eg. Ki lon se e? Can you see dupe, or yemisi? She their grades. Do they have two heads? Ode boy, you even allow a girl to beat you in this and that. Lol. However, some pressures are good if used or applied in a positive way. Eg. If you notice you are not doing well in business or career and you see your friend who is doing a lot better, you can decide to improve on yourself, so as to meet up if you know you are lazy and can do better.
